Great Start Collaborative
A Great Start for All Children in Alpena, Montmorency, & Alcona Counties
The Great Start Collaborative (GSC) is a collection of people like you. It belongs to you and anyone who is a member of the community.
The Great Start Collaborative of Alpena, Montmorency, and Alcona counties are made up of wide variety of both community organizations and leaders from each county that have a special interest in Early Childhood Investment. We are representatives from local businesses, health care, education, higher education, non-profit, court systems, human services, and parents who are carrying out a plan to address the needs of young children within our Northeast Michigan Communities.
Why is our work at the GSC important?
Our goal is to encourage both a safe and healthy learning environment for children and families in our community. The mission of our collaborative is to assure a coordinated system of community resources and supports to assist all Northeast Michigan families in providing a 'great start' for their children from birth through age eight. Since the AMA Great Start first began we have been successful in creating a Great Start Parent Coalition that has increased parenting support through workshops, training, meetings, and community advocacy. Our parent coalition meetings are intended to appeal and serve the needs of families, as well as, provide opportunity for parent leadership.
