Jean Kowalski had the honor of representing Region 3 in her role as the Family Engagement Coordinator at the MiFamily Retreat. Over the course of the three-day event, she collaborated with nine fellow Family Engagement Coordinators, engaging in meaningful dialogue and shared learning. Jean presented Region 3’s key priorities and the supports available to families in the region.
The retreat offered a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of the impactful work being led by the MiFamily Engagement Centers. The sessions were both meaningful and inspiring, and it was a privilege to connect with others who are deeply committed to strengthening families and communities.
The goal of the retreat was to provide participants with practical tools, fresh ideas, and lasting connections to enhance their work. We are enthusiastic about the path ahead and look forward to seeing how these collective efforts will continue to drive positive, lasting change for families across the state.

The best night of the year! Classroom library cohort 4 comes to a close.
These amazing educators from Alpena, Atlanta, and Hillman worked hard all year to learn how to reinvent their classroom libraries in order to engage students in reading. Last week they took all those new books back to their classrooms.
Look at those smiles!

Our favorite night of the year is book pick-up night! Cohort 4 participants of the AMA Classroom Library Makeover Series will get their books for their libraries tomorrow. It was a smaller cohort this year, but these teachers are excited and passionate about building quality classroom libraries 📖Today our literacy team and admin assistant spent time getting the books organized and ready. #beAMAzing #michiganliteracy #literacyessentials

Thank you to Dr. Anthony Luongo (Thunder Bay Eye Care) and Dr. Tyler Skiba (Skiba Vision Center) for volunteering to do vision screening and Steve Rea for conducting hearing screeners.
Children also had their skills in talking, learning, gross motor, fine motor and social emotional evaluated.
AMA hosts the Developmental Assessment Clinic 3 times per year. If you are interested in having your child's developmental skills assessed, please contact AMA Early On Coordinator, Jessica Bauer at 989.354.3101 ext. 222 to sign up for the next DAC in Fall 2025.

Great things happen when our community comes together! 📚💙
In this photo, two amazing Alpena High School seniors (Eric Eades and Madison Pugh) from the Early College program are helping deliver beautiful, handcrafted bookshelves—built by students in the Alpena CTE program—to Ella White Elementary, Wilson Elementary, and Atlanta Elementary.
Also pictured is a dedicated teacher from Wilson Elementary (Frederick Loewe, showing just how connected and supportive our school community truly is.
A big shoutout to all the students and educators involved in making this collaboration a success. Your teamwork is helping create welcoming reading spaces for young learners across our region! The AMA is proud to work with you on the Classroom Libraries Project.
