In October 2022 AMA ESD re-envisioned Tot Spot, the instructional playgroup that is open to all children birth through age 5 within AMA ESD. The first session held had one child and their parent. Over the last year, Special Education Supervisor Ashley Peterson and her enthusiastic Early On team worked to create unique, play-based experiences in the areas of speech, social play, fine motor, gross motor, and thinking & learning. As a result, the playgroup is seeing a positive response from the community, with over 25 children and their parent/guardian attending our first session in Alpena County! The group has also expanded to Montmorency and Alcona Counties to allow for equal access for families in all portions of AMA. These no-cost play dates are open to all children 0-5 within Alpena, Montmorency, and Alcona counties. Future dates and locations for Tot Spot will be shared via social media. For any questions, please contact Early On at (989-354-3101.

The STARS Reading Intervention Program has incorporated cumulative review days into their lesson plans to strengthen student learning. With these days in place, we hope to see increased retention of skills. The "Flashcard by NKO" app has been an amazing tool to use on our interentionist iPad as a group and/or individually on student chromebooks. It has multiple activity choices, is easy to manage, and we are able to create cards to specifically match the lessons and skills that we teach. #beAMAzing

Teachers from Alcona and Alpena met last week for Session 2 of Classroom Libraries professional development. During this session facilitators Melissa Lappan and Julie Bastow prepared teachers for next steps --inventorying the classroom library. The goal is to make the library engaging so students WANT TO READ! Below are the resources we base our instruction on.
